The 19th Asian Games took place from September 22 to October 7, 1990, in Beijing, China.
In the men's 100m sprint final of the 1990 Beijing Games, the champion was Qatari athlete Amran, who achieved a time of 10.3 seconds on his debut. He triumphed over himself at the same timing in the Hanban Asian Games held four years prior, which also saw him claim the silver medal. Four years later, in the Osaka Asian Games, Amran recorded a new personal best of 10.18 seconds and successfully defended his title, becoming the first athlete to win the gold medal in the men's 100m sprint final three times.
